Lead Engineer

Description:

A highly respected UK-based technology innovator is seeking an RF Communications Lead to join their Defence & National Security division. This is a pivotal role for an experienced professional to take charge of the design and development of advanced radio communication systems, supporting projects ranging from low-power, long-range networks to high-performance software-defined radio platforms.

The successful candidate will operate within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, working alongside engineers, data scientists, and commercial experts. Projects span the entire development lifecycle, from concept design, modelling, and experimentation through to field deployment, making this a highly varied and intellectually rewarding position.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for RF communication systems across Defence & National Security projects.

• Lead or contribute to system architecture design, technical bids, proposals, and hands-on delivery of RF solutions.

• Work closely with specialists in RF, DSP, embedded software, AI, and systems engineering to deliver end-to-end solutions.

• Engage directly with government and defence clients, building long-term technical relationships and ensuring successful programme delivery.

• Provide technical leadership in programme planning, strategy, and commercial proposals, while ensuring delivery excellence.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Strong expertise in RF system design, covering propagation, protocols, waveform design, and implementation.

• Proven track record of technical delivery in R&D, defence, or mission-critical communication environments.

• Prior experience in client-facing roles, ideally within consultancy, defence contracting, or government partnerships.

• Previous involvement in UK Defence & National Security programmes (highly desirable).

• Eligible for SC (Security Check) clearance (mandatory).

• Collaborative, pragmatic, and problem-solving mindset with excellent stakeholder management.
