As part of the JV leadership team, the role of the Operations Manager is to ensure the efficient delivery of a portfolio of projects awarded under the framework. The Operations Manager, working alongside peers will be accountable for delivery across all the stages in the lifecycle and will need to take projects through the governance stages whilst delivering against challenging targets. This position is a key interface with the senior management of the client’s organisation. Strong personal skills are essential to maximise the safe efficient delivery of the work that you are responsible for along with an ability to proactively manage interfaces with stakeholders, accurately report and communicate on key issues, progress, risk, and opportunities. On the AMP7 framework with Southern Water, we are delivering projects ranging in value from £2M to £50M over a five-year programme.

Key Accountabilities:
 

  • The delivery of a tranches of projects, meeting and exceeding the project parameters, proactively monitoring and analysing performance at tranche, and individual project level.
  • Developing and implementing delivery strategies to meet the project/tranche objectives.
  • Leadership, organising, directing and management of the project management and supporting staff.
  • Identify resource requirements and support requirements, liaise with business unit managers.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and environment performance of all operations is managed to the highest standards.
  • Ensuring adherence to the Asset Lifecycle Process (ALP), managing stages as required including governance.
  • Ensuing risks and opportunities are identified, managed, contingency plans put in place.
  • Ensuring change and commercial challenges are effectively managed.
  • Ensuring quality objectives are met and that corrective management is effectively applied where appropriate.
  • Stakeholder management and communication including with the supply chain.
  • Monitoring performance and ensuring reporting effectively communicates the status of progress, performance against budget, key issues and mitigations and forecasting the future position.
  • Ensuring projects are delivered to the BMS processes and procedures and apply best practice and a continuous improvement approach.
  • Manage, reduce, and drive out unnecessary costs and inefficient activities.
  • Work with Client team members to jointly meet the project objectives and jointly agree project performance reports.
     

About You:
 

  • Significant experience in planning, progress measurement, budget control and change management on project phases from business case through design, construction, commissioning, and closedown gained with an engineering contractor ideally within the water sector (Relevant Project Management experience over a period of not less than 10 years)
  • Project Management track record on projects more than £20M value
  • Degree or HND in an engineering or project/construction management discipline although relevant experience or related qualification will be considered.
  • NEC Contract experience
  • Appropriate CSCS Card
  • CITB SMSTS or IOSH Managing Safely
  • Ability to lead, manage and motivate at all levels of the project team and influence stakeholders.
  • Strong safety performance, experience of developing safe environment.
  • Ability to interact at all levels, report accurately and timely and promote best practice and where appropriate innovation.
  • Critical thinking & problem solving.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build strong beneficial relationships with client team.
  • Flexibility and openness of approach
  • Ability to prioritise activities in a challenging environment.
  • Analytical with the ability to quickly assimilate information and present concisely at various levels.
  • Strong persuasive communication skills in writing, oral and presentations
  • Good IT skills including project management software and MS Office
