Responsibilities
 

  • Booking in of samples, completion of documentation for receipt, checking and appending date of specimens, and registering specimens on to the internal systems
  • Conducting validation checks of samples for testing and communicating with relevant office based technical staff regarding the details
  • Preparation of test specimens in accordance with requirements of appropriate standard
  • Bonding of samples completed within 2 working days of receipt, and all appropriate documentation completed and appended to works order
  • Conditioning of test specimens when required by technical staff and in accordance with the standard
  • Scales and weight checks conducted on a daily basis, works order moved to relevant test pegs upon successful completion of conditioning (fixed period or constant mass)
  • Daily checks are conducted prior to conditioning activates and non-conformances are raised and documented in line with standard procedure
  • Responsibility for ensuring that any breakdowns / problems are reported to the maintenance team immediately for prompt action
  • Ensuring that the temperature and relative humidity conditions in respect of the main RTF conditioning room meet the appropriate requirements as defined in Quality Systems Procedure
  • Regular communication with Technical Assistant’s regarding sample status, and Testing Officer team regarding issues
  • Appropriate stocking levels identified, suitable storage location labelled and stocks ordered to maintain effective levels across department accordingly
  • Ensuring test specimens are removed from the main RTF conditioning room immediately after tests have been conducted and placed into the intermediate test specimen store
  • General assistance to Reaction to Fire technical staff (incl. testing if appropriate & required)
  • Ensuring that the specimen receipt area, specimen booking-in area and main RTF conditioning room are maintained in a clean and tidy state
     

Skills / Qualifications
 

  • Academic qualifications of minimum A-level in science or engineering subjects or equivalent
  • Experience of working in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory would be beneficial as this will provide a good foundation to work from
  • Excellent literacy and analysis skills to read/interpret standards and operating procedures
  • Practical laboratory skills are desirable but extensive on the job training will be provided
  • We are keen to engage with individuals who have an interest in testing and who have an inquisitive nature regarding their field of work, how equipment functions, etc.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills backed up by a firm mathematical foundation such that when equipment does fail (as it does in the harsh environment that we work in), you will be able to work with the wider team to determine root cause
  • A team player who takes pride in providing excellent customer service and completing tasks on time
  • Attention to detail and not afraid to raise questions
  • Good written and oral communication
