Description:
BAM UK & Ireland is seeking a highly experienced and visionary Project Director to lead a major infrastructure programme at Hinkley Point C, one of the UK’s most ambitious and strategically significant energy projects. This opportunity offers the chance to play a key role in helping the UK achieve its 2050 carbon net zero target while setting new standards for innovation, sustainability, and excellence in large-scale nuclear construction.
As Project Director, you will be responsible for leading a multidisciplinary team of approximately 600 professionals, delivering a broad portfolio of works spanning civil engineering, building services, and marine construction. The position offers an exceptional platform for a seasoned leader to manage one of the UK’s most complex joint venture frameworks, with a turnover exceeding £100 million per year.
You will report directly to the Joint Venture Board, ensuring delivery excellence, commercial success, and strategic growth across multiple concurrent contracts in varying stages — from pre-construction to project closeout.
Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight to a large-scale team delivering works within a regulated nuclear environment.
Manage and oversee the Joint Venture agreement between two Tier 1 civil engineering contractors, ensuring alignment with strategic and operational objectives.
Drive a strong health, safety, and wellbeing culture, setting industry-leading standards in safety performance and project management.
Ensure commercial success and contract compliance, managing scope, financial performance, and stakeholder relationships.
Foster and maintain robust relationships with clients, regulatory bodies, and key stakeholders to secure additional opportunities within the programme.
Oversee quality assurance and supply chain performance, ensuring strict adherence to regulatory and project-specific requirements.
Provide strategic direction, mentoring, and leadership to ensure teams perform effectively, meet project milestones, and deliver measurable outcomes.
Develop strategies to identify and secure new scopes of work within the existing framework, contributing to the project’s long-term success and sustainability.
Degree or HND in Engineering (or equivalent qualification).
Proven track record of successful performance in a senior leadership position within major infrastructure, civil engineering, or nuclear projects.
Strong commercial and contractual acumen, with experience negotiating terms and managing large budgets.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively at Executive and Board levels.
Demonstrated ability to motivate, inspire, and lead large multidisciplinary teams, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.
In-depth understanding of construction environments, contract management, and project delivery frameworks.
Competitive salary package commensurate with experience and responsibilities.
Company car, car allowance, or travel allowance.
8% matched pension contributions for long-term financial security.
Private healthcare and life assurance.
26 days annual leave, plus 2 wellbeing days and 1 volunteering day.
Comprehensive personal and professional development opportunities.
A supportive and inclusive workplace culture that promotes work-life balance, diversity, and equality of opportunity.
