Sales Executive

Description:

Balfour Beatty plc is seeking an experienced and motivated Buyer to join their team in Aberdeen. This role offers an exciting opportunity to be part of the BBNP ASTI Project, a major 400kV Overhead Line project from Beauly to Peterhead — the largest of its kind in the UK. The Buyer will play a crucial role in leading and delivering procurement activities that support both the project and the company’s broader mission to advance the UK’s energy infrastructure and net-zero goals.

You will be responsible for developing, updating, and managing procurement strategies and schedules, ensuring that all procurement processes comply with company policies while delivering value and efficiency. The position involves active engagement with suppliers, conducting negotiations, preparing tenders, and managing supply chain risks to ensure materials and services are delivered to specification, on time, and within budget.

This is a hybrid position based in Aberdeen, with occasional travel required to the project site in Elgin.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, update, and manage procurement strategies and schedules for the BBNP ASTI Project.

  • Expedite key materials to site, ensuring timely delivery and quality compliance.

  • Prepare and issue requests for proposals (RFPs) and quotations.

  • Conduct supplier evaluations and manage supply chain risks effectively.

  • Lead negotiations with suppliers and subcontractors to achieve the best commercial and technical outcomes.

  • Prepare and process purchase orders in accordance with internal governance standards.

  • Monitor the supplier market to identify potential new partners and maintain relationships with existing ones.

  • Establish and manage performance-led supplier relationships focused on value for money, service quality, and continuous improvement.

  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies and processes, maintaining transparency and accountability in all transactions.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Proven experience in procurement processes within the utilities or construction sector.

  • Strong background in strategic procurement, negotiation, and project scheduling.

  • Excellent analytical skills with a sound understanding of commercial and contractual principles.

  • Familiarity with NEC3 & NEC4 contracts.

  • Ability to work collaboratively while maintaining a pragmatic yet disciplined approach to compliance.

  • MCIPS qualification (or willingness to work toward it) is advantageous.
