Description:
Moat Homes is seeking a strategic and experienced Senior Data Protection Advisor to lead and shape its data privacy frameworks in a fixed-term, 12-month role. Based in Dartford and operating under a hybrid model (minimum 3 days in-office per week), this role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on an organisation dedicated to providing safe and affordable housing across London, Kent, Essex, and Sussex.
As a Senior Data Protection Advisor, you will be the principal authority on all matters related to data privacy. You will lead strategic initiatives, influence leadership, and cultivate a culture of data responsibility across the organisation. Your responsibilities will include delivering guidance on complex data sharing agreements, managing Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), handling subject access requests (DSARs), and responding to data breaches with agility and care.
You will be tasked with maintaining compliance documentation, drafting policies, interpreting new legislation, delivering staff training, and embedding privacy-by-design principles across all projects. A proactive and knowledgeable approach is essential, as is a strong ability to communicate and collaborate with internal stakeholders and project teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead Moat’s data protection efforts across all departments
Manage privacy compliance initiatives, policies, and record keeping
Conduct DPIAs, assess and handle DSARs and data breaches
Train and mentor staff in data protection awareness and best practices
Monitor legislative changes and ensure organizational preparedness
Collaborate with senior stakeholders and legal experts
Contribute to risk management and governance strategies
Requirements:
Substantial experience in senior-level data protection roles
Expert knowledge of UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, and related laws
Certified qualifications such as CIPP/E or BCS
Strong communication, training, and stakeholder engagement skills
Project and policy development experience
Desirable:
Mentoring experience
Familiarity with ISO 27001 and data governance frameworks
Understanding of privacy in emerging technologies (e.g., AI, biometrics)
Working knowledge of FOIA and records management principles
