Senior Financial Support Assistant

 

Description:

Newcastle Research & Innovation Institute in Singapore (NewRIIS) is seeking a compassionate and resourceful Senior Financial Support Assistant to join their Student Financial Support Team. This role involves assessing and administering applications for discretionary hardship funding, providing financial guidance, and supporting students in managing emergency funding needs. The position is student-facing, involving telephone, email, and occasional face-to-face interactions, requiring excellent customer service and empathetic communication skills.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assess applications for discretionary hardship and emergency funding, ensuring compliance with internal and external policies.

  • Provide basic financial advice and guidance to students, addressing queries and supporting the application process.

  • Prepare outcome letters and manage follow-up enquiries and correspondence.

  • Record all relevant information in appropriate databases and spreadsheets.

  • Administer payments to students based on assessed outcomes.

  • Contribute to data preparation for reports, returns, and student-related events.

  • Support the organisation and delivery of team-led and university events, such as open days and presentations.

  • Assist in the development and continuous improvement of processes and procedures within the team.

  • Undertake other duties as assigned by the Team Manager, Deputy Manager, or Director of Service.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Educated to NVQ/A level or equivalent experience in a similar role.

  • Strong customer service experience, ideally in financial or student support settings.

  • High level of numeracy with excellent attention to detail.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively both autonomously and as part of a team.

  • Demonstrates initiative, problem-solving skills, and strong organisational abilities.

  • Positive, proactive attitude with a commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusivity.
