Senior Process Development Scientist

Description:

We are seeking a Senior Process Development Scientist to lead the translation of lab-scale crystallisation processes into robust, scalable reactor systems. In this role, you will take molecules from early-stage crystallisation through to continuous processing within our crystallisation platform.

You will design and execute experiments to understand and control nucleation and crystal growth. You will work with other bioprocess engineers to translate CFD findings into reactor designs and run DoE to optimise reactor operating conditions. You will integrate PAT tools into the reactor and use the data collected to instruct experiments design.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and scale-up of crystallisation processes for biologic molecules, from early-stage screening through to continuous manufacturing
  • Design and execute experiments to understand and control nucleation and crystal growth kinetics
  • Apply Design of Experiments (DoE) methodologies to optimise process parameters and define design space
  • Translate experimental and modelling insights (e.g. CFD outputs) into reactor design and operating strategies
  • Evaluate, implement, and integrate Process Analytical Technology (PAT) tools for real-time monitoring and control
  • Analyse complex datasets to drive process understanding, optimisation, and decision-making
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical, systems and software engineers to integrate processes into autonomous and flight-ready hardware

Requirements

  • A degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemical Engineering, Bioengineering or related subject.
  • Hands on experience designing, optimising and running bioprocessing equipment
  • Experience with biologics (e.g. monoclonal antibodies) and/or crystallisation in an academic or industry setting
  • A good technical knowledge of fluid dynamics.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and running experiments and interpreting large datasets

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with PAT tools (e.g. FTIR, Raman, imaging probes)
  • Exposure to continuous processing or flow reactors
  • Experience working in regulated environments (e.g. GMP, GLP) or awareness of regulatory expectations
  • Experience working with modelling tools (e.g. CFD) and analytical software (e.g. Python or Minitab)
  • Interest in space, microgravity research, or autonomous systems
