Transport Officer

Description:

Mears Group PLC is looking to appoint a reliable and experienced Transport Officer for its operations in Wakefield, where the organization plays a crucial role in providing temporary accommodation for asylum seekers across the Northeast, Yorkshire and Humber, Northern Ireland, and Scotland.

In this role, you will be responsible for the safe transportation of service users and their dependent children, while ensuring full compliance with all statutory and contractual obligations. You will conduct rigorous equipment checks, maintain accurate documentation, and provide incident and compliance reports as necessary to resolve any issues.

You will work closely with the wider transport team, supporting the Transport Manager to meet contractual performance targets and deliver a high-quality, client-focused service. The job requires a strong ability to communicate with vulnerable individuals, exercise due diligence, and operate within health and safety guidelines.

Additional responsibilities include collaborative work with regional housing management teams, participation in ad hoc projects, and coverage support for colleagues within Mears Housing Management. Compliance with company policies, group procedures, and the Mears Code of Conduct is essential.

Key Role Criteria:

• Ability to transport passengers and carry heavy luggage

• Strong customer service skills and calm under pressure

• Confidence in handling responsibilities involving vulnerable populations

• Clean and valid UK driving license (minimum 3 months held)

• Successful completion of DBS, BPSS, and Security Clearance checks (proof of address, valid passport, references, and 5 years UK residency required)
