Description:

The Environment Agency is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Aerial Survey Team Member (Aerial Surveyor) to join its specialised Geomatics Team, playing a key role in collecting high-resolution aerial data that supports environmental policy, research, and decision-making across England.

In this role, you will operate state-of-the-art aerial survey equipment aboard a light aircraft, capturing LiDAR, aerial photography, and hyperspectral data for a range of national work programmes. Your work will directly contribute to improving environmental management and enhancing the quality of life for people and wildlife across the country.

This position requires field-based work with flexible shifts, including day and night shifts, weekends, and bank holidays. A 20% shift allowance is provided in addition to base pay.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and manage various aerial survey instruments onboard aircraft.

  • Support data acquisition and equipment mobilisation across England.

  • Assist in survey planning and flight operations.

  • Conduct post-flight data checks and data management.

  • Participate in incident response operations (e.g., floods), providing essential aerial intelligence.

  • Contribute to delivering high-quality, GIS-ready data products for scientific and environmental decision-making.


Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Degree in Geography, Surveying, Environmental Science, or a related scientific/technical discipline.

  • Strong knowledge of Health, Safety, and Wellbeing practices in field-based operations.

  • Proven ICT skills relevant to technical survey work.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

  • Sound decision-making and troubleshooting capabilities with a positive outcome focus.

Additional Requirements:

  • Full UK driving licence and access to own transport.

  • Must reside within a 30-minute commute of East Midlands Airport.

Full bespoke training will be provided, with opportunities to develop operational decision-making and troubleshooting skills.
