Viper Innovations Ltd, an award-winning and globally recognised technology company delivering innovative engineering products and data solutions to the Global Subsea and UK Rail industries, is seeking a Research and Development Engineer (Electronics & Electrical) to join its Research Team. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about advancing technology through research, prototyping, and product development, while working in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

As an R&D Engineer, you will be deeply involved in shaping the future of Viper Innovations’ technology portfolio, engaging in early-stage research, proof-of-concept development, and driving the transition of ideas into fully realised products. The position offers the opportunity to work on pioneering projects, contribute to intellectual property development, and collaborate with industry and academic partners on cutting-edge advancements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and conduct multi-disciplinary research in electronics and electrical engineering, including modelling, simulation, and analysis to support product innovation.

• Advance sensor-based condition monitoring technologies through research, design, prototyping, and testing.

• Execute proof-of-concept projects with rapid prototyping, design validation, and iterative testing to refine prototypes against specifications.

• Publish and present research findings through papers, conferences, and external collaborations, ensuring alignment with the latest industry developments.

• Support internal product delivery, ensuring seamless integration of new research into existing technologies.

• Collaborate cross-functionally across departments to advance interdisciplinary initiatives.

Requirements:

• Master’s degree (or higher) in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related discipline.

• Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and solve complex technical challenges.

• Proficiency in simulation/design software (LTSPICE, Matlab, Altium, etc.) and strong laboratory skills including soldering, wiring, and prototype assembly.

• Programming proficiency (Python or C preferred).

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience contributing to technical papers and conference presentations.

• Strong ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies.

Desirable (Not Essential):

• Experience with mechanical modelling and 3D printing.

• Embedded software programming skills.

• Knowledge of reflectometry technologies (TDR, STDR, SSTDR, FDR).

• Understanding of RF/communication theories.
