Research Fellow

 

Description:

The School of Health Sciences at the University of Surrey is seeking a highly motivated Research Fellow to contribute to an NIHR Health Services and Delivery Research funded project. The position focuses on conducting a realist review of evidence into what works to support oncology staff in mainstreaming genomic testing information, with the goal of generating actionable insights and evidence-based recommendations.

This important research aims to enhance oncology professionals’ engagement with genomics, improve communication of genomic test results, increase referral rates, and ultimately contribute to earlier cancer diagnoses and better preventative care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake data collection, data extraction, synthesis, and contribute to the writing of the final project report.

  • Develop theoretical insights using realist review methodology.

  • Produce dissemination materials to ensure findings are shared widely and effectively.

  • Work closely with co-PIs Dr Ruth Abrams and Dr Chris Jacobs, as well as the wider research team.

  • Contribute to project management and maintain effective collaboration within a remote/hybrid team structure.

Candidate Profile:

  • Post-doctoral researcher in health services research, social sciences, or related fields.

  • Experience with realist methodology and qualitative research.

  • Preferably knowledge of genomics, cancer care, or NHS workforce dynamics.

  • Strong project management, analytical, and critical thinking skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an inclusive, diverse research culture.

Contract Details:

  • Full-time, fixed-term position for 24 months starting November 2025.

  • Based in Guildford with hybrid working options.
