Senior Analyst

Description:

We are seeking a Senior Analyst/Developer to join an established internal university team and support the core Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) Moodle, Lecture Capture System (Echo360), and other complementary learning, teaching, and assessment solutions (e.g., Mahara ePortfolio, digital assessment tools). The successful candidate will provide technical expertise in the development, integration, and support of these platforms, troubleshoot issues, apply relevant fixes, and create new features while working with internal stakeholders and external vendors to ensure a robust service across the university.

Key Responsibilities:

• Respond to escalated ServiceNow calls and JIRA bugs by providing expert advice/operational support to users of the University’s core systems.

• Hands-on involvement in a small, specialist team to design, develop, test, and maintain high-quality web applications and backend/frontend services.

• Collaborate with teams to design, develop, and test solutions.

• Document new processes and products to facilitate knowledge sharing.

• Focus on quality with practices like continuous integration and test-driven development.

• Communicate positively with users and customers, avoiding technical jargon.

• Solve technically complex challenges and implement clean fixes.

• Ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability for data.

• Monitor systems, reacting to alerts and abnormal behaviors.

• Liaise and escalate issues with internal developers and third-party vendors.

• Identify recurring issues, propose solutions, and implement root cause fixes.

• Provide guidance and expertise in medium and large projects.

• Manage risks around lifecycle management of systems and services.

• Develop and maintain learning systems documentation and ensure business continuity practices.

Projects Duties:

• Play a key role in project teams, providing guidance and technical solutions to meet customer requirements.

• Escalate challenges and propose solutions.

• Identify and raise project risks and propose mitigation strategies.

Requirements:

• Degree-level education or equivalent experience in a similar role.

• Strong working knowledge of Moodle VLE and Echo360 and associated tools.

• Knowledge of Linux command line development tools and administration.

• Familiarity with development methodologies including Agile, version control, test-driven development, continuous integration, and change control.

• Experience with PHP, CSS, JavaScript, NodeJS, and jQuery (Python experience desirable).

• Experience implementing REST APIs and designing REST-based APIs.

• Ability to communicate complex technological issues across varying audiences with different technical backgrounds.

• Experience in an HEI environment and knowledge of Azure cloud environments are desirable.

• Exposure to PRINCE2 Foundation and ITIL4 Foundation is a plus.
