Pegasus Group is currently seeking a passionate and motivated Transport Planner Apprentice to join their Birmingham office. This is a unique opportunity for aspiring transport planners to earn a recognized Level 6 Integrated Degree while gaining valuable, hands-on experience in a professional consultancy environment.
The apprenticeship combines academic study through Northeastern University London with real-world projects, mentoring, and skills development, designed to launch a successful career in transport planning and urban mobility.
Assist in the production of Transport Statements, Transport Assessments, and Travel Plans for a diverse range of development planning projects.
Support junction modelling, swept path analysis, and AutoCAD-based transport design tasks.
Contribute to the development of access strategies, parking strategies, and sustainable transport solutions.
Gain experience using industry tools and software, including TRICS, AutoCAD, and transport modelling packages such as Junction9, Arcady, Picady, and LinSig.
Research planning and transport policies, including NPPF, DfT guidance, and Manual for Streets, contributing to well-informed planning documents.
Attend client and consultant meetings to understand project delivery in a real-world context.
Carry out tasks and responsibilities aligned with apprenticeship learning goals and the broader objectives of the consultancy.
Course Title: Transport Planner (Integrated Degree) – Level 6 (equivalent to a full bachelor's degree).
Duration: 36 to 39 months (3 years)
Provider: Northeastern University London
Delivery Method:
One day per week dedicated to online, off-the-job training
Remaining time spent in the Pegasus office with mentors and project teams
One in-person block of two weeks at university per academic year (in St Katharine Docks, London)
Support Provided: Dedicated mentor, professional development opportunities, and structured learning
A-Level Qualifications:
Minimum grades: CCC in Maths, Geography, or IT
Degree Qualifications (if applicable):
Acceptable degrees: Geography, Planning, Engineering, Maths (1st, 2:1, or 2:2)
Strong communication and presentation skills
Sound analytical and problem-solving abilities
Detail-oriented with solid administrative and organisation skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word
Capable of report writing and technical documentation
Initiative-driven, with an eagerness to learn and grow in a consultancy setting
Basic understanding of S106 agreements, NPPF, and DfT Transport Assessment guidelines
Familiarity with transport planning concepts and documentation
Any prior experience in a private consultancy (preferred but not essential)
