CICS Technical Specialist
Location: Sheffield, UK (3 days onsite / 2 days remote)
Contract Type: Long-term Contract
We are seeking an experienced CICS Technical Specialist to join a global Mainframe Infrastructure team supporting critical enterprise banking systems within a large-scale IBM z/OS environment.
This role will focus on the installation, administration, support, and enhancement of CICS Transaction Server environments across complex Mainframe platforms. You will work closely with infrastructure, application support, and engineering teams to deliver resilient, secure, and high-performing CICS services supporting mission-critical business applications.
The successful candidate will contribute to both operational support and strategic infrastructure initiatives, playing a key role in maintaining platform stability and driving technical improvements across the Mainframe estate.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, administer, and support CICS Transaction Server environments on IBM z/OS platforms.
- Perform software installation and maintenance activities using SMP/E.
- Manage CICS resource definitions, regions, and operational support activities.
- Provide production support and troubleshooting for CICS environments, including out-of-hours support when required.
- Support developers and application support teams with technical expertise and issue resolution.
- Lead technical investigations and recovery activities for complex incidents and system issues.
- Design and implement infrastructure and technical solutions aligned with business and operational requirements.
- Coordinate and manage delivery activities involving internal and external technical teams.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across Mainframe infrastructure and operational processes.
- Participate in project delivery activities across Mainframe and enterprise technology environments.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong experience supporting and administering CICS Transaction Server environments.
- Proven hands-on experience with:
- CICS TS 5.5 or later
- SMP/E
- CICSPlex/SM
- Omegamon
- RACF or ACF2 security products
- Strong knowledge of CICS systems programming, software installation, maintenance, and support.
- Experience supporting production Mainframe environments and troubleshooting complex incidents.
- Ability to perform problem analysis, determination, and resolution across enterprise systems.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage priorities and deliver work within complex operational environments.
- Experience working within large-scale Mainframe infrastructure teams.
Desirable Skills
- Mainframe Sysplex experience.
- Experience with third-party Mainframe product installation and support.
- Exposure to enterprise banking or financial services environments.
- Strong project management and delivery coordination experience.
- Experience working within 24/7 support models and critical production environments.
