Claims Negotiator

Description:

Pen Underwriting UK is seeking a Liability Claims Negotiator to manage an allocated portfolio of liability claims, including Employers Liability, Public Liability, Property Owners Liability, and Products Liability. This role involves handling claims from first notification (FNOL) through to settlement, ensuring compliance with regulatory and company standards.

The successful candidate will contribute to achieving economical and prompt claim settlements, investigating and assessing claims, negotiating outcomes, and ensuring a customer-centric approach. You will also support operational improvements, monitor service providers, and maintain accurate and detailed documentation for internal review and audits.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage a caseload of liability claims up to £100,000 (potentially higher).

• Investigate, assess, and negotiate claims with accurate liability and reserving decisions.

• Maintain data integrity and documentation for all claims.

• Identify potential fraud indicators and escalate appropriately.

• Monitor and appoint panel service providers, evaluating their performance.

• Contribute to team performance and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Keep senior staff informed of large losses and claims trends.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Strong knowledge of liability claims processes and legal liability principles.

• Understanding of relevant law, Civil Procedure Rules, and valuation of bodily injury claims.

• Skills in reserving, underwriting philosophies, and policy coverage/wordings.

• Effective time management, delegation, and service quality maintenance.

• Excellent questioning, negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
