Mission Practitioner

The United Reformed Church Eastern Synod is looking to appoint a Mission Practitioner (Children’s Work) to become an integral member of its Mission Team. This full-time role (35 hours per week) involves flexible working, including some evenings and weekends, and is based primarily in the Synod office in Whittlesford, with the possibility of some home working. The position is offered on a permanent basis with a competitive salary.

The role aims to encourage and support local churches in their mission efforts, with a special emphasis on children’s work. Working closely with the Mission and Training Officer and the Mission Practitioner (Youth Work), the post holder will stimulate faith-sharing, help implement mission strategies, and empower churches to become more confident in engaging with children and families within their communities.

A strong Christian faith is essential for this position, as the role carries a genuine occupational requirement under the Equalities Act 2010.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support and empower local churches in developing effective children’s ministry and outreach programs.

• Work alongside church leaders and volunteers to implement mission strategies tailored to children and families.

• Deliver training, presentations, and resources that enhance faith-sharing and engagement with younger audiences.

• Collaborate closely with Synod staff to ensure alignment with broader mission goals.

• Regularly travel across the Synod area (driving license essential).

Key Requirements:

• Demonstrated experience in children's ministry, Christian mission, or similar community/faith-based work.

• Strong leadership, communication, and facilitation skills.

• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.

• Full driving license and willingness to travel regularly.

• Must be a practicing Christian (as per occupational requirement).
