Planning & Performance Lead

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Planning & Performance Lead to join Robert Walters as a Consultant. As an employed Consultant, you will benefit from permanent employment with Robert Walters and will be deployed on an interim or project basis into our clients' organisations, in return we will provide you with the opportunity to develop your skills with ongoing training and professional accreditations.

 

The Planning & Performance Lead is responsible for coordinating the development, submission and ongoing monitoring of Lloyd's business plans and performance reporting across all the clients syndicates. Working as part of the Underwriting performance team, this role acts as a key interface between Underwriting, Finance, Actuarial, Portfolio Management and Lloyd's, ensuring business plans are robust, realistic and aligned to strategic objectives, capital constraints and regulatory expectations.

 

The role provides performance insight and constructive challenge to underwriting leadership, supports governance and attestation processes, and ensures timely, accurate delivery of planning and performance requirements to Lloyd's. The Lloyd's Planning & Performance Manager helps drive profitable, sustainable underwriting performance through analysis, oversight and continuous improvement of planning and performance frameworks.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

Lloyd's Business Planning:

  • Coordinate the annual Syndicate Business Forecast (SBF) process and associated Lloyd's planning submissions.
  • Manage SBF planning timetables, deliverables and stakeholder engagement to ensure successful delivery of plans within agreed deadlines.
  • Review and challenge underwriting plans to ensure consistency with strategic objectives, portfolio optimisation priorities, capital constraints and Lloyd's expectations.
  • Use appropriate systems and procedures to ensure accurate data is used and subsequently appropriate analyses produced. Ensure appropriate checks are performed within processes to minimize inaccuracies
  • Support preparation of business plan documentation, attestations and governance papers for executive and board approval.
  • Liaise with Lloyd's performance teams and respond to planning-related requests, questions and feedback.
  • Ensure underwriting, financial and capital assumptions remain aligned throughout the planning process.
  • Performance Monitoring & Insight
  • Monitor syndicate and portfolio performance against SBF, prior year and strategic targets.
  • Produce regular performance reporting and analysis for management committees, external capital providers, performance forums and executive stakeholders.
  • Identify emerging performance trends, opportunities and risks, providing clear and actionable insight.
  • Support performance reviews and portfolio management discussions through robust analysis and challenge.
  • Develop commentary that translates complex performance information into concise management insight.

 

Lloyd's Oversight & Regulatory Engagement:

  • Support ongoing engagement with Lloyd's Market Oversight and Syndicate Performance teams.
  • Coordinate responses to Lloyd's planning, performance and oversight requests.
  • Monitor adherence to approved business plans and support governance for material deviations.
  • Assist with the preparation of submissions, reviews and presentations required by Lloyd's.
  • Maintain awareness of Lloyd's market expectations, performance management guidance and regulatory developments

 

Technical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of Lloyd's business planning and performance management processes.
  • Knowledge of underwriting performance drivers, portfolio management principles and insurance financial metrics.
  • Experience interpreting and analysing complex performance and planning information.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with clear written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Excellent reporting and presentation skills.

 

Experience:

  • Experience in insurance planning, performance management, underwriting management, portfolio management, actuarial or finance functions. Actuarial experience an advantage.
  • Experience working with Lloyd's business planning and/or performance oversight processes.
  • Experience supporting executive governance and decision-making forums.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver insight-led reporting and analysis.
